Public Service and Volunteering
Public service and volunteering are more than just commitments to me, they are the guiding principles of my life, shaping not only my career but also my personal identity. The drive to serve others has been a constant force, motivating me to contribute to the well-being of individuals and communities alike. This deep-seated motivation stems from a combination of personal values, life experiences, and a profound belief in the power of collective action to effect positive change.

I believe that volunteering is one of the most powerful ways to contribute to the well-being of others and to create positive change within a community. My extensive volunteer experience reflects a lifelong commitment to serving others, whether through being a part of the Royal Children’s Hospital (Melbourne) Good Friday Appeal to provide world-class care to our children, firefighting with the Country Fire Authority, providing prehospital emergency medical care as a Certified First Responder and Advanced Responder with St John Ambulance, or supporting educational initiatives as a school council member, on various School Councils. Each of these roles has reinforced my belief in the importance of giving back, fostering community spirit, and empowering individuals with the skills and support they need to succeed. From pioneering a bicycle maintenance program for underprivileged children to leading teams in emergency situations, my volunteer work is driven by a deep sense of responsibility and a desire to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those around me.
One of the most inspiring aspects of public service and volunteering is the opportunity to meet and work alongside extraordinary individuals. The people I have had the honour of serving, whether they are colleagues, community members, or those in need of assistance, have been a constant source of motivation. Their strength, resilience, and courage in the face of adversity inspire me to continue giving my best in every endeavour. It is through these connections that I find renewed energy and purpose, and it is their stories that remind me of the importance of the work we do together.

My Motivation for Public Service and Volunteering
Looking Forward: A Vision for Continued Service
One of the most inspiring aspects of public service and volunteering is the opportunity to meet and work alongside extraordinary individuals. The people I have had the honour of serving, whether they are colleagues, community members, or those in need of assistance, have been a constant source of motivation. Their strength, resilience, and courage in the face of adversity inspire me to continue giving my best in every endeavour. It is through these connections that I find renewed energy and purpose, and it is their stories that remind me of the importance of the work we do together.
A Lifelong Calling
The values of service, duty, and compassion were instilled in me from an early age. Growing up, I was surrounded by examples of selflessness and community involvement, which laid the foundation for my dedication to public service. These values were not just taught they were lived. Watching the impact that even small acts of kindness and service could have on others instilled in me a lifelong desire to contribute to the greater good. This calling has only grown stronger with time, guiding me through every stage of my career and personal life.
Helping Others
Throughout my career in the military, policing and law enforcement, emergency medical services, firefighter and legal practice, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of helping others. Whether it’s providing lifesaving medical care in an emergency, advocating for justice in the courtroom, or mentoring young professionals, the satisfaction that comes from making a difference in someone’s life is incomparable. These experiences have shown me that public service is not just about fulfilling a duty, it’s about making meaningful connections, empowering individuals, and building stronger, more resilient communities.
Giving Back to My Community

Volunteering has provided me with countless opportunities to engage with my community in meaningful ways. It has allowed me to see the world through the eyes of others, to understand their challenges, and to work together to find solutions. My involvement with the Country Fire Authority and St John Ambulance Australia, for example, have been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Through these volunteer organisations, I have had the privilege of using my skills in emergency medical care and urban and rural fire fighting to serve those in need, often during their most vulnerable moments. The ability to give back to the community in this way is not just a responsibility it’s a source of immense joy and fulfillment.
Commitment Beyond Career
While my professional roles in the Australian Defence Force, law enforcement, and legal practice have allowed me to serve in various capacities, my commitment to public service extends far beyond my career. It is a personal mission, one that I am deeply passionate about. Volunteering has enabled me to continue serving even outside of my formal professional duties, providing a way to stay connected with the community and to contribute to causes that I care about deeply. This ongoing commitment reflects my belief that service is not confined to the workplace, it is a way of life.
