As Mayor of the City of Whittlesea, I have the privilege of fulfilling many roles in support of our wonderful community, but one of the roles I truly cherish is the opportunity to showcase and celebrate the remarkable success of the businesses that help shape and strengthen our city.

Last night, I had the great pleasure of attending and proudly representing our municipality as Mayor at the 70th Anniversary Celebration of Floridia Cheese, held at the Palladium at Crown. It was a spectacular evening honouring a proud legacy built over seven decades, a legacy of craftsmanship, community spirit, and family values.

Floridia Cheese is far more than a producer of world class, traditional Italian cheeses. It is a pillar of Thomastown, a business that has not only grown into a nationally awarded, third generation success story, but one that continues to give back generously and consistently to the community that surrounds it.

Whether it’s supporting the community, providing jobs to local families and championing regional pride,  Floridia Cheese exemplifies everything we admire in a community minded business.

Last night, I had the honour of speaking with many local, national and international business executives and some of the very passionate leaders behind this incredible Floridia Cheese business, including: Tom Montalto, Rose Portella, Lisa, and Francesco Portella. Their energy, integrity, and dedication to their craft and their community was truly inspiring.

Our city thrives because of business leaders like them, people who not only drive economic success but also build legacies of generosity, innovation, and care.

To every local business owner making a difference in our City of Whittlesea, thank you. Your work matters and as your Mayor, I see you, I support you, and I stand proudly beside you.

And to Floridia Cheese, congratulations on 70 magnificent years. Your success is our city’s pride and I look forward to touring your facility in Thomastown soon and witness first hand your significant expansion for the betterment of our city, our state, our country and internationally.
