This evening, I had the absolute honour of attending, in my capacity as Mayor of the City of Whittlesea, the Doreen Scouts Group, a proud part of Scouts Victoria. From Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, and Rovers, I was privileged to watch our tremendous young people being recognised with awards for their outstanding growth, commitment, and achievements.
It was also a privilege to join the Regional Commissioner in addressing a large and enthusiastic gathering of scouts, leaders, adult helpers, parents, the Scout Group Leader, and District Commissioners. Together, we celebrated the remarkable work being undertaken by the Doreen Scouts Group and the difference it continues to make in the lives of so many young people.
I always feel especially humbled when members of an event tell me this was the first time a Mayor had ever visited them. Moments like this remind me why being Mayor is such a privilege because it’s about showing up, listening, participating, being committed and celebrating the incredible contributions of our community and community groups.
I witnessed tonight that the Scouts movement is so much more than badges and uniforms it builds resilience, leadership, teamwork, and a sense of belonging. The Doreen Scouts Group is a shining example of these values in action, shaping the leaders of tomorrow while creating lasting friendships and memories along the way.
A heartfelt congratulations to every award recipient, and my sincere thanks to the dedicated leaders, volunteers, and families who give their time and energy to make this group thrive. Your commitment ensures that scouting in Doreen remains strong, inspiring, and inclusive for generations to come. Here’s to many more years of adventure, learning, growth and always being prepared for the Doreen Scouts Group.
