Tonight, I had the great honour, as Mayor of the City of Whittlesea, to attend the Country Fire Authority (CFA) South Morang Awards Night, a truly special occasion to recognise and celebrate the incredible men and women who serve our community with courage, professionalism, and selfless dedication.

It was a night of well deserved recognition for the first responders of the South Morang Fire Brigade, including the presentation of the prestigious Firefighter of the Year Award. These brave volunteers put themselves on the line to protect lives, homes, and properties often under the most challenging and dangerous of circumstances. Their contribution to the safety and resilience of our municipality cannot be overstated.

The evening was made even more memorable by the presence of Minister for Energy and Resources, the Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio MP for Mill Park, Deputy Chief Officer of the CFA Northwest Region Mr Tim Holland, and South Morang CFA Fire Brigade Captain Mr Brett Sandlant. Each of whom played a vital role with me in supporting and recognising the incredible work our CFA does.

It was a privilege to meet and speak with all the dedicated CFA members in attendance. Their passion, professionalism, and community spirit are truly inspiring. As Mayor and the councillor for the South Morang Ward, I am immensely proud of the South Morang CFA Fire Brigade and the vital service they provide to our city. I look forward to the opportunity to connect further with Minister D’Ambrosio and Deputy Chief Officer Holland in the near future.  To every CFA volunteer in South Morang and beyond, thank you. Your service exemplifies the very best of community spirit. Tonight, we celebrated your achievements, and every day, we are grateful for your sacrifice.
