Last night, I had the honour of attending the Al Siraat College Interfaith Eid Al-Adha Dinner, accompanied by Cr Cox, as part of my role as Mayor of the City of Whittlesea. It was a privilege to deliver a speech focused on unity, gratitude, and the enduring strength of our diverse community.
The Interfaith Eid Al-Adha Dinner is a remarkable event that brings together people of all faiths and backgrounds to celebrate Eid Al-Adha, the Islamic “Festival of Sacrifice”, in a spirit of mutual respect, cultural exchange, and shared understanding.
It is not only a religious observance but also a meaningful occasion to build bridges across communities, promote interfaith dialogue, and uphold the values of compassion, generosity, and collective care.
The City of Whittlesea is proud to be one of the most culturally and religiously diverse municipalities in Victoria. I am immensely proud to serve a community where diversity is embraced as a strength, and where inclusion, respect, and shared humanity are at the heart of everything we do.
Events such as this one reflect the very best of what our city stands for. They remind us that we are stronger when we come together, learn from one another, and celebrate what unites us.
A heartfelt thank you to the leadership, staff, and community at Al Siraat College for hosting such a meaningful and inspiring evening. Cr Cox and I were honoured to be part of it, and we look forward to continuing to support and celebrate the incredible diversity that defines the City of Whittlesea.
