Yesterday, it was my great pleasure as the Mayor of the City of Whittlesea to attend and deliver the opening address at our World Elder Abuse Awareness Day event.
It was an honour to stand alongside and speak to so many of our older residents, dedicated council officers, passionate presenters, and engaged community members as we came together to raise awareness of elder abuse and reaffirm our collective commitment to the safety, dignity, and rights of older people in our municipality.
Officially recognised by the United Nations, World Elder Abuse Awareness shines a vital light on the often hidden issue of elder abuse whether financial, emotional, psychological, physical, social, or through neglect. Abuse in any form has no place in our community. As a Council, we remain deeply committed to ensuring every older person feels safe, respected, and supported.
I extend my sincere thanks to our council officers for their outstanding work in planning, facilitating, and delivering this important event. Their professionalism, dedication, and care were instrumental in making the day such a success.
I am proud that the City of Whittlesea continues to lead in this space, and yesterday’s event reflected the genuine care and compassion that define our community.
Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday, your presence, your voices, and your support made a powerful difference.
