Recently, I had the opportunity to walk through Norris Bank Reserve in Bundoora alongside members of our local community. As Mayor of the City of Whittlesea, I take very seriously the concerns raised about rising crime and the urgent need for improved proactive crime prevention measures in our public spaces and our City.
Community safety is a significant issue facing our city, and I want to assure residents that your voices have been heard.
Together with the Deputy Mayor and local Councillor for Bundoora, we have begun taking direct proactive action. I will accompany our specialist officers from the City of Whittlesea as they conduct a safety review of Norris Bank Reserve.
This review will focus on practical steps to enhance safety, security, and lighting in the area for all who use and enjoy this beautiful space.
We will not stand by while our communities feel unsafe. We are committed to taking proactive, coordinated, and community informed action to ensure our public spaces and City remain safe, inclusive, and welcoming.
To the residents who walked with me and shared your concerns, thank you for your honesty, your time, and your dedication to your neighbourhood. We are in this together, and I will continue working hard to deliver the proactive crime prevention initiatives we need to continue to make our city, ‘the City of Whittlesea a safe place for all.
