This week, I had the privilege of attending a meeting of the National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA) in my capacity as Mayor of the City of Whittlesea. Representing one of Australia’s fastest growing outer metropolitan communities, it was an honour to join fellow mayors and deputy mayors from across the country who, like us, are working tirelessly to address the challenges and opportunities that come with rapid population growth.
The NGAA plays a critical role in advocating for equitable investment and strategic planning across Australia’s growth areas. As member councils, we share a common mission to secure the infrastructure, services, and economic development opportunities our communities need to thrive. These conversations are particularly vital for the City of Whittlesea as we continue to experience significant population increases and development.
The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to connect with other local government leaders, share experiences, and begin the important groundwork for future collaboration and advocacy. These relationships will be essential as we push for stronger national recognition of the needs of growth area councils, particularly in the areas of transport infrastructure, housing, education, and employment generation.
I look forward to continuing these important discussions and ensuring Whittlesea’s voice is both heard and respected at the national level. Our community deserves nothing less than a well planned, well resourced, and sustainable future and we will continue to work with our NGAA partners to make that a reality.
