The Thomastown Recreation and Aquatic Centre,

Since commencing my role as a Councillor, I have made it a priority to visit and familiarise myself with every key community facility owned or operated by the City of Whittlesea. This hands on engagement forms a vital part of my commitment to understanding the infrastructure, services, and spaces that are central to the wellbeing of our residents.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of undertaking a detailed familiarity tour of several important community facilities across our municipality. I was accompanied by one of our highly experienced Directors and two dedicated Unit Managers. Their professionalism, local knowledge, and willingness to share insights significantly enriched my experience. The tour included in depth visits to the: Meadow Glen Athletics Track, Thomastown Recreation and Aquatic Centre, Thomastown Library, Thomastown Neighbourhood House, The Barry Road Community Activity Centre, Galada Community Centre, and the Lalor Library.

We not only toured each facility completely, but I also had the invaluable opportunity to meet and speak with the staff and community members who bring these spaces to life. Their input provided valuable insight into the services delivered at the ground level and the positive impact these facilities have on the daily lives of individuals and families in our City.

This tour has further enhanced my knowledge and will strengthen my ability to advocate effectively for the needs and priorities of each site as both a Councillor and as Mayor. I extend my sincere thanks to the Council officers involved for their time, dedication, and the thoughtful discussions we shared at each location.

I look forward to continuing this important work and to supporting the ongoing advocacy for the development and improvement of these community assets, ensuring they remain accessible, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of our growing city.
