Over the past few days, I have had the opportunity to visit and actively engage with a number of local retail business owners at Mill Park Lakes and Mill Park Village shopping centres in South Morang.

These visits reaffirmed my strong commitment to supporting our local business community. I shared updates on the significant business support initiatives that the City of Whittlesea is undertaking to assist both small and larger enterprises operating within our municipality.

I was genuinely inspired by the achievements and contributions of these businesses, many of which play a vital role in supporting and uplifting our local community. Importantly, I took the time to listen to their suggestions on how Council could provide even more meaningful support, and I welcomed their innovative ideas and practical feedback.

However, many also raised concerns about the rising incidents of youth crime and the impact it is having on their businesses and sense of safety. These conversations underscore the need for urgent, community driven responses to this issue.

As Mayor of the City of Whittlesea, I remain firmly committed to working with Council, Victoria Police, local stakeholders, and our wider community to develop and implement initiatives that reduce crime, enhance safety, and empower residents with the knowledge and tools to lawfully protect their property.

Whittlesea is a great place to live, work, raise a family and do business. I will continue to advocate strongly for measures that retard Crime, protect our local businesses, strengthen public safety, and ensure that our city continues to thrive.
